Special precautions

Indicated from 9 months to 55 years of age.

Giving with other vaccines

  • Prevenar 13 (PCV13): should not be given on the same day; if given on different days, allow at least 28 days between them. In people with asplenia, splenic dysfunction or HIV infection: do NOT give Menactra (MenACWY-D) and PCV13 at the same time, because this reduces the antibody response to 3 pneumococcal serotypes (4, 6B, 18C). Give PCV13 first and Menactra 4 weeks later.
  • Tetraxim: can be given on the same day. In children aged 4–6 years, giving Menactra after a vaccine containing a full dose of diphtheria toxoid (Daptacel/DTaP) markedly reduces the meningococcal antibody response. Give them at the same time, or give Menactra first.
  • Bexsero (4CMenB): can be given on the same day. Bexsero and Menactra can be given at the same visit at two different anatomical sites without affecting safety or immunogenicity.
  • Gardasil 9: can be given on the same day. HPV vaccine (Gardasil 9) and quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine (Menactra) can be given at the same time to adolescents at two different sites, to make the most of each visit and reduce travel costs.
