Rubella (German measles)
Get the MMR/MRVAC vaccine at least 1–3 months before pregnancy.
Transmission
Through the respiratory tract by droplets from the nose and throat.
Symptoms
Mild fever, a fine pink rash that quickly spreads over the whole body, swollen tender lymph nodes behind the ears and at the back of the head, joint pain.
Complications
Congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) in the baby if the mother is infected in the first 3 months of pregnancy: deafness, congenital heart defects, cataracts, small head, miscarriage, stillbirth.
People at high risk
Women of childbearing age who are not immune.
