Hepatitis A
Can be prevented with Avaxim, Havax or the combined Twinrix (A+B) vaccine.
Transmission
Through the digestive tract (faecal–oral route): eating contaminated food, water or raw seafood.
Symptoms
Persistent tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea, discomfort over the liver, yellow eyes and skin, dark urine.
Complications
Acute liver failure (especially in older people or people with existing chronic liver disease), death.
People at high risk
Travellers to endemic areas, people who eat at street stalls, nursery and kindergarten children.
